Frozen Animals of Damavand

When you ascend to Damavand summit you may see few bodies of different animals just around the crater near the south peak. These frozen animals are quite similar to Egyptian mummies but without any bandages! The remains have been there for a long time, perhaps for about 20 or 30 years.

There is no clear idea about the cause of dead, perhaps they have died because of some disease, sulfur gas, hunger or frozen to dead due to freezing temperature. The bodies belongs to animals such as ordinary sheep, wild sheep (gazelle), dog and wolf. Due to the cold and freezing temp at the peak and also the sulfur gas in the area, these bodies will remain for many more years.

Popular mountains for hiking trekking and mountaineering in Zagros Mountains in Iran with numerous summits above 4000m. Mt Dena is one of most recommended mountain for trekking.

Dena Mountain Chain Mt Dena is standing in the Zagros Mountains South West of Iran. It is about 70 Km long and has about 50 peaks above 4000 meters. The highest summit of Mount Dena is called Bizhan III (or Ghash Mastan, Ghachmastan) and it is 4535 m high. Dena Mountain Chain is located between three Iranian provinces, Esfahan, Kohgiluyeh and Chaharmahal Bakhtiary.

The Famous Peaks of Dena Mountain
- Bizhan I (Mash) 4340 m
- Bizhan II (Borj Asmani, Seh Ghopeh) 4350 m
- Bizhan III (Ghash Mastan) 4535 m, the highest peak.
- Hera 4260 m
- Hovzdal (central HovzDall, or Dena) 4350 m
- Pazan Pir 4300 m
- Sichani ( Sichoni) 4200 m

Hovzdal Summit
Howzdal or Dena Peak 4350 meters Central Howz Dall (also called Dena peak) is the most popular peak of the mountain for trekking and mountaineering. The favorite route for this peak starts from Sisakht Town and goes through a beautiful valley called Boz Kosh Valley on the south face of the mountain. This route has a shelter/refuge called Cheshme Pouneh (or Cheshmeh Pidani) at altitude 3800 m, about 1.5 to 2 hours before reaching the summit. There are numerous mountains for hiking trekking and mountaineering in Alborz and Zagros Chains in Iran with many 4000m peaks. Mt Tochal is the most popular non technical mountains for a summer trek.

Mt Touchal is 3965m hight, it is in Tehran metropolitan. It hase different climbing routes such as Darband, Darakeh, Kolakchal, Velenjak, ...Tocohal is the most crowded mountain during the Iranian Weekends (Thursday and Friday). Every week hundreds of Iranian mountaineers visit Mnt Tochal for hiking & trekking and rock climbing. Touchal is the best places to practice and get ready for M Damavand 5671m.

Mount Tochal is located in in the Alborz Mountain Range in northern part of Tehran, Iran. It has a 12 km long ridgeline. The highest peak is called Mount Tochal.

A seven station gondola lift runs from Tehran to the Tochal Ski Resort and there is a modern hotel called Tochal Hotel. Toochal is a popular ski resort for in Tehran. It is one of the best ski resort in Iran and the nearest ski Resort to capital city Tehran, it is quite popular with the single daytrip skiers. It is the 5th highest ski resort in the globe, it has a gondola (telecabin) lift 7.5 Km long which is one of the longest in the world. It takes less than one hour from the first station to the last station by car cable.

Iran has many beautiful mountains to offer to world mountaineering and climbing society for summer trekking and winter climbing with hundreds of peaks above 4000 metres altitude. Mountaineering is popular in Iran, the climbs start from very simple routes and trekking in summer to technical winter ascents on mountains such as Damavand 5671m, or Alam Kouh 4850 m, which has a 750m vertical granite wall. Mount Sabalan is the second highest volcano in Iran , the first is Mount/Volcano Damavand 5671m . Sabalan is located in Azarbaijan Iran , Ardabil province.

Elevation: 4,811 m (15,784 ft)
Location: Ardabil province, Iran
Prominence: 3,283 m (10,771 ft)
Coordinates: 38.25° N - 47.92° E
Type: Stratovolcano
Age of rock: 5.6–1.4 million years
Last eruption: unknown, possibly Holocene
Easiest route: hiking / scrambling

Sabalan (in Persian سبلان Sabalân ;also called Sāvālān in Azerbaijani) is an inactive stratovolcano in Ardabil province of northwestern Iran. Sabalan is the third highest mountain in Iran and a permanent crater lake has formed at the summit. Sabalan has a ski resort (Alvares) and different tourist areas such as the Sarein spa. The mountain is known for its beautiful vistas, including the Shirvan gorge, where few climbers ever venture.
